Let's Go Viks!

WSCCA Award Winning Coaches!

We have to congratulate our Head Coach Katiedawn Vine for being awarded the Recreation Program Administrator of the Year by the Washington State Cheer Coaches Association (WSCCA).

We are also wanting to congratulate Coach Denesha (Dee) Blanchette for being awarded the Recreational Rising Star of the Year by the Washington State Cheer Coaches Association (WSCCA).

Their passion for this sport and their dedication to our team are reflected in our athletes outstanding performance and their love for their coaches. We are honored to have you two leading our athletes.

 Junior Vikings Cheer Program Goal

Puyallup Jr Vikings Cheer, located in Puyallup, Washington, is a non-profit, recreational cheerleading squad for ages 5-16. We believe that cheerleading can and should promote positive values, build self-esteem, and foster a sense of community. PJV is dedicated to supporting and promoting our local Junior Vikings Football teams, providing community service in and around Puyallup, and cheering competitively at a recreational level.

As the Spring Season comes around Puyallup Jr. Vikings Cheer starts its conditioning for Sideline Cheer. This is offered once or twice a week beginning in June and runs through July, weather depending. Sideline practice runs 3-4 times a week for the month of August and then once a week though September. All practices are outdoors and in the elements.

We cheer at both home and away games every Saturday (possibly a few Sundays- pending field availability) starting at the end of August through the end of October, with the possibility of playoff games in November. Athletes will be split into a max of 4 squads. As a general guideline the squads will be:

  • K-2nd Grade
  • 3rd-4th Grade
  • 5th-6th Grade
  • 7th-8th Grade

The number of squads and how they are formed may vary, as it is based off the number of football teams established for the season. Cheerleaders may cheer up or down a squad based on age, ability and squad needs. Since we cheer on an age-based schedule, we unfortunately cannot place our cheerleaders to cheer only for siblings/family members games.

*9th graders are welcome to cheer with PJV under the following circumstances. Their high school offers no JV Cheer Team AND they have tried out and were cut from their High School team. This is to ensure that those who want to cheer for their high school team can continue to work those skills needed to make their Varsity Team the following season.

To be eligible to cheer with PJV, all interested participants must be entering kindergarten for the 2024/2025 school year. The sideline team for PJV is no-cut, so we welcome all who are interested. Throughout the season, we expect that our cheerleaders demonstrate extreme dedication and positive attitudes working towards uplifting each other and their community.
